North Petherton's Second XV play in the Somerset Two South division following a fortuitous promotion at the end of the 2008/09 season. Having finished fourth in Somerset Three South for two seasons running, they were promoted thanks to Chard Thirds (who finished third in the league last season) being unable to take the last promotion spot due to their Second Team being in the league above. Whilst the Second Team have been competitive in Somerset Three South, they have struggled to match the top sides in that league over the last two years, and this season will be challenging as a result.

However, the club has bolstered its senior squad of player's over the summer and promotion has come at the right time with North Petherton aiming to build a squad of players able to challenge for First Team places. The side will be captained this season by a combination of Miles McNeillie and Ben Williams, both of whom have been long standing members of the First Team and will be among the group of players pushing for First Team places this season.

With new players continuing to join the club, the Seconds are intending to build upon their promotion from last season and compete against much stronger opposition than they have faced in recent years.
