Castle Cary II 0 v North Petherton III 40

The 3rd team travelled to Castle Cary following an extended break due to the adverse weather conditions. The first mistake of the day was to put the rugby kit in the car where the driver thought Castle Cary was in Yeovil. So with a sight panic the kit finally arrived.

The team was bolstered by a number of Colt’s players, whose game with Taunton had been called off. There was the obligatory North Petherton slow start, and they lost the first scrum against the head. Once Pethy got into their stride there was impressive inter-passing between forwards and backs which resulted in the first try after 10 minutes for Colt & 3rd team debutant Oscar Treegena. The 2nd try came shortly after with a break from the scrum by Adrian Harris, offloading to Oscar who was supported by Tyrone Harris and Gavin Wolfe with the resultant try being scored by Oscar.

There was then a period of play where North Petherton defended resolutely with Gavin Wolfe showing his tackling skills and Wayne Pither’s ball stealing did not allow Castle Cary into the North Petherton 22. It was then time for the backs to take centre stage and with Mark Sutherland-Earl pulling all the strings Oli Steward and Jack Poppem in the centres breaking through tackles resulted in them both scoring a try. Mark Sutherland-Earl converted all the try’s making the half time score 28 – 0.

After the half time break Pethy began to relax and the otherwise solid lineout started to misfire, leading to a short lived period of Castle Cary pressure. Pethy's 5th try was scored by Mark Sutherland-Earl with a great show and go, and finding the gap to cross the line. He then converted his own try.

The 6th try was scored courtesy of a backs move up the hill with Adrian Harris picking up from the base of the ruck to crash over the line. The conversion attempt was missed giving a final score of North Petherton 40 – Castle Cary 0.
