Petherton seconds travelled to their Tor counterparts looking to win their seventh consecutive game and keep their promotion hopes alive. Petherton started the stronger of the two sides with their forwards dominating all facets of the game. Number 8 Chris Richards opened the scoring with a typical surging run off the back of a dominant scrum. Pearce missed the conversion. Pearce then slotted a straight forward penalty to extend Pethy's lead to 8 - 0. Richards then scored another try with Pearce adding the extra two points. Centre Dan Steward was next on the score sheet following another period of pressure on the Tor 22. The conversion was missed. Richards finished the first half scoring with his third try again the additional two points were missed. Petherton led at half time 25 - 3, with Tor getting a a penalty under the posts and with them aware of Pethertons record of 5 games without conceeding a point they opted to end that run !
In the second half Petherton again took the attack to Tor, openside Mike Taylor, again having another strong game, was held up just short of the line. The referee penalised Taylor for not releasing and with Petherton not organised defensively Tor ran out of their 22, broke two tackles and ran the length of the pitch to score in the corner. This rightly got Tor's tails up and they then proceeded to run at Petherton who were then rattled and struggled to keep hold of the ball.
Petherton weathered the storm and hit back with tries from Steve Potter and a brilliant team try finished off superbly by wing and skipper Ben Williams. Oscar Tregenna kicked over the Williams try for two extra points. Petherton turned the screw one more time with a try through the bulky second row Adrian Tew. Unbelievably Tregenna missed the conversion from in front of the posts. Petherton won 42 - 8, but it should have been more if Pethy had their kicking boots on. Tor had Pethy rattled for a while and with bigger games on the horizon training is a must to keep the promotion push alive. Credit must go to Pethertons forwards who ensured victory with a strong display.
