11th December 2010 - Tribute Somerset 2 South:

North Petherton II 38 v 0 Wiveliscombe II

Report by Ben Williams

After three weeks without any rugby Petherton seconds entertained Wiveliscombe on a dark afternoon where the floodlights were required to ensure the game was completed.

Overall Petherton gave a good performance in their return to action with the forwards controlling the scrum and dominating the lineout. This provided the backs with plenty of possession to attack Wivey's backline. It wasn’t long before the first try came Pethy's way through fly half Dan Pearce who slotted home the resulting conversion.

Despite Pethy's dominance around the park Wivey never tired of defending resolutely and made Pethy work for the two further tries of the half through No 8 Simon Gingell and again Dan Pearce, only one of which was converted taking the score into half time at 19-0.

Petherton started the second half with 14 men after Mike Taylor was sin-binned for fighting, after Simon Gingell was struck whilst defenceless on the floor. Despite this set back, Petherton started off well but struggled to hold onto any real possession with the early part of the half played in Petherton's territory. When Petherton finally got into Wivey's half they took their chances and put the game out of reach with tries from Simon Gingell, Mike Taylor and in his first game for the second XV, Colt Jimmy Hancock. Pearce converted two out of the three.

The team performance was a good one considering the lengthy break between games, however certain players stood out. These were Cody Duheaume, Mike Taylor, Simon Gingell, Dan Pearce and in another assured performance at second row Colt Connor Potter.

Team: Kearle (Hancock), Murdoch (Long), Duheaume, C. Potter, Tew, Ardren (Stewart), Taylor, Gingell, Rybaruk, Pearce, Steward, Pearn, R. Potter, Winn (Prince) & Williams
