NPRFC - 2nd XV vs Chard II

After a month off Petherton seconds hosted their Chard counterparts in what was always going to be a close game. Chard started the day in second place one point ahead of Petherton who were fourth in the table and following a heavy defeat for Petherton at Chard earlier in the season, Petherton were eager to prove their worth.

Petherton started off brightly playing up the slope with the forwards making good territory and with fly half Pearce kicking deep to touch, Petherton found themselves camped inside the Chard 22 for much of the opening period of play. However, the opportunities presented to them didn't materialise and Chard escaped the onslaught. It wasn't long though before Petherton opened the scoring after Pearce had kicked ahead and full back Sam Tozer and debutant scrum half Oscar Tregenna had a foot race between themselves to score under the posts, which surprisingly Tozer won! Pearce added the extra two points for a 7-0 nil lead.

Despite the forwards providing plenty of ball through a dominant performance at the scrum and lineout opportunities came and went. This meant Chard were certainly not out of the game at half time.

The second half started off just as the first, but after only 10 minutes second row Ben Stewart was forced off with a leg injury. This lead to the introduction of veteran second row Mike Coles, who immediately made a big impact on the first scrum. Petherton's forward domination lead to the second try. Following a catch and drive from a lineout Number 8 Chris Richards crossed the line. Pearce added the conversion. Pearce soon added a further penalty to make the score 17-0 and really Petherton should have scored more, but overall they must be pleased with the way they performed and look forward to the away trip to Crewkerne next week.
