5th March 2011 - Tribute Somerset 2 South:

North Petherton II 25 v Minehead Barbarians II 15

Report by Ben Williams

Petherton seconds hosted their Minehead counterparts looking to turn the tables on the side who were the last team to inflict defeat upon them.

From the kick off Petherton fumbled, which allowed Minehead to attack, but good defence saw the ball get turned over and Petherton attacked up the flank with some sublime interplay. This proved to be the story throughout the game, with Pethy playing some great rugby, but breaking some absolute basic laws of the game to cough up possession.

Petherton led at half time 15-5 with two tries from Oscar Tregenna and one that should go to the dubious try panel as both openside Mike Taylor and number 8 Adrian Tew both came up claiming a try from a mass of bodies!

Petherton started the scoring in the second half using their dominant forwards effectively by punching holes in the Minehead defence. This led to second row Ben Stewart crashing over. Minehead then struck back with a well worked try only for Petherton to return to the other end of the pitch and score from a powerful rolling maul by young second row Tyrone Harris. Minehead scored again late on to make the final result 25-15 with no conversions from either side being successful.

Petherton really should've won the game in the first half and with two successive away games against the top two in the table basic errors have to be eradicated and their goal kicking improved in training this week.

Team: Pocock (Kearle), Sellick (Murdoch), Harris, Stewart (Modrynski), Winn, Taylor, Tew, Tregenna, Palmer, L. Steward (Baker) Havill, D.Steward, Williams, Potter.
