Petherton travelled to Ivel for this rearranged match bolstered by several first team players, but came up against Ivel's regular first team all bar two players. Despite this Petherton started off well using both forwards and backs to good effect. Petherton opened the scoring through Kyle 'Bob' Prescott off the back of a powerful driving maul. Fly half Harry Roberts missed the conversion. Ivel the struck back with a penalty soon after, which was closely followed by a converted try. Petherton hit back with a penalty of their own, which resulted in a half time score of 10-8.
After the break Ivel brought on more first team players which made in roads into Pethertons half however Pethy never took a back ward step with some aggressive defence. Pethy were first to score in the second half through hooker Nathan Murdoch off the back of another driving maul. The conversion was again missed. With Petherton leading 13-10 and looking comfortable a couple of basic errors led to Ivel running in an easy converted try and therefore taking the lead 17-13. Pethy could have easily folded but showed plenty of heart to march back up the pitch and following some extensive pressure at the scrum on Ivel's 5 metre line scored through centre come number 8 Sam Williams, the extras were again missed. With two minutes to go Pethy had the game sown up, but some how managed to knock on the ball and Ivel hacked through with their wingers getting a perfect bounce and bearing down on the line Petherton needed some desperate defensive tackles which came through centres Rob Havill and Williams. Ivel then had a 5 metre scrum and with a match winning try looking likely Petherton needed a big scrum, which is what they produced and prop Prescott striking the ball back for scrum half Pearce to kick into touch and record a deserved victory.
The game was skippered by Adrian Tew whilst regular captain
Ben. Williams sat out due to illness. It was also the last game for a while for young wingers Mike 'Dinger' Stevens who will be leaving shortly for a tour of Afghanistan, all at Petherton RFC wish him a safe trip and look forward to seeing him soon!
