Pethy dominate the first half to set up a comfortable victory

04/10/08 - Tribute Somerset Three South: North Petherton II 44 v 17 Minehead III

Report by Lloyd Steward

Following last weeks defeat against chard, Petherton were determined to bounce back and prove that they can be a real in this league.

Pethy’s start was electric they scored their opening try within 2 minutes. Pethy knew that they needed an insurmountable lead by half time as the conditions were treacherous and it would have made their second half very difficult indeed.

Soon after the restart Pethy continued their pressure and scored straight after. This was very much the pattern of the half as Pethy rattled up 44 points with Nick Pocock, Jamie Jennings, Lloyd Steward, Larry Steward, Dan Steward, Dan Rood and the powerful Wayne Pither crossing twice, the only blemish on an otherwise perfect half was a rare mix up between Lloyd Steward and Dave Hill resulting in a Minehead try.

As expected the second half was extremely difficult and Pethy did not score any additional points. The last 10 minutes again lead to a lack of intensity by Pethy gifting two soft try’s to the visitors.

Pethy’s forwards were again rampant as they turned over almost all of Minehead’s scrums where the front row of Rob Kearle, Jamie Jennings and the returning Pete Kingston were on a different level, backed up with the efforts of Mike Coles and Dan Rood in the engine room. The back row of Adie Harris, Nick Pocock, and Larry Steward took the fight to Minehead and were everywhere.

In the backs Nathan Rose and Mark Sutherland-Earl were solid in attack and defence. Just as last year Larry has managed to turn a group of players into a team playing with great heart and showing good potential, and everyone played well.

H/T: 44-7
