North Petherton 27 Bridgend Athletic 59

A good workout for both squads was the consensus of both the coaches. Bridgend Athletic came with a squad of thirty and attempted to play open rugby from the start. In a match divided in to twenty minute sections Petherton started brightly and showed intent by trying to run out of their 22 only for it to be turned over. The visitors very quickly pounced on any Pethy error and counter attacked slickly.
Petherton found themselves 12 points adrift after conceding two tries within the space of 3 minutes with both tries being scored from inside breaks. Pethy managed to get in to their opponents half on 15 minutes and from a lineout drove the visitors back to within 5 metres, the ball was shipped along the back line for Carter just to dot the ball down.
The last play of the quarter belonged to Bridend as the slippery scrum half managed to glide his way through loose breakdown defence and slip an inside ball to the winger who strolled over.

The rest of the game involved multiple changes and the opportunity to try out partnerships, strategies and assess fitness levels. Petherton's set piece held up well and as usual secured good ball. In open play Bridgend showed their expertise and managed to slow down Pethy ball. Mike Taylor showed his destructiveness in the tackle and sets the benchmark for all the Petherton squad. Veteran Matt Brown was on the end of two tries and continues to epitomise 100% effort.

This Thursday Petherton have an evening kick off (19:00) against local rivals Hornets. This will be the final run out before the season starts the following week against Torquay. This first game is also a chance for the club to host a 'Ladies Day' where a Buffet, Pimms and Bubbly will be served. Tickets £10
