An accomplished comprehensive victory against a team lying second from the bottom put Pethy back on the winning trail after last weeks narrow loss. The forwards won the collisions and the breakdowns allowing Pethy to boss from start to finish and score a total of eleven tries.
Petherton took the lead as early as the 3rd minute from a lineout and a controlled drive shunted Simon Ranson over (5-0). All the rugby remained in the Bude half, as Pethy attacked at will and only miss timed passes stopped the scoreboard ticking over. In the tenth minute a well-worked backs move created space in the middle and Carl Brown dotted the ball down under the posts, Roberts converted (12-0).
Bude attacked the home side whenever they had the ball through their lively centres that split the Pethy defence with ease and only a dropped final pass kept them scoreless. Immediately Pethy picked up their game and forced themselves into the Bude 22 and from another forward drive Sam Williams got the final touch, Roberts converted (19-0). The next score was created within thirty seconds as Bude were forced to concede a penalty ten yards out and directly in front of their posts. Petherton took the pragmatic approach and chose to kick the penalty (22-0).
In the 30th minute the bonus point was secured with the best try of the match with forwards and backs interchanging and a slick change of direction from Kyle Prescott beat the drifting defence from 25 metres out to give the front row a full house of tries (27-0)
In the final three minutes Petherton added another 14 points with the first try for Oscar Treganna playing in an unaccustomed wing position and showing his awareness in getting close to the posts and the second was another destructive bulldozing run from Arron Gibbs which were both converted. Half time 41-0
The second half began with a Lloyd Williams sniping run from his own half and after a couple of phases Brown scored his second under the posts (48-0). Bude had their best part of the match as they shifted the Pethy defence around but unfortunately for them passes went astray or Pethy hit the breakdown quicker.
Gibbs scored his second try in the 57th minute after more concerted forward work and deservedly 2nd row James Cox who was at the heart of every prominent attack powered his way over and under the posts, Roberts converted (60-0).
The next score belonged to the determined visitors who counter attacked from their own half, shifted the ball right to left and the winger scored with a full length dive by the corner flag. The conversion was superbly drilled over (60-7).
Petherton continued to pound the Bude defence and a charged down kick by Damian Griffin, a friendly bounce of the ball and he was under the posts, Converted (67-7). The final play of the game resulted in another 7 points as Brown dived over and Roberts converted (74-7).
A pleasing bonus point performance with strong displays from James Cox, Jervis Manupenu and a man of the match performance from Kyle Prescott.
