North Petherton promoted for a second year in a row

The RFU's overhaul of the of the national league structure has given North Petherton an unexpected second promotion in a row after it was confirmed that they will compete in the Western Counties West Division next season. After finishing second in the Somerset Premier last season and losing their Somerset/Gloucester Play-off match in April, North Petherton have been promoted anyway due to the Western Counties West and North Divisions being expanded to 14 sides from 12. Burnham-On-Sea, the Somerset Premier champions, and Southmead, the play-off winners, have been promoted to Western Counties North.

The league re-structure has also benefited North Petherton Seconds, who have also been promoted from Somerset Three South to Somerset Two South. Despite finishing fourth last season, the top three were to be promoted to Somerset Two South due to this division being expanded to 13 teams, with no relegation for the bottom placed teams in Somerset One. However, Chard Seconds are already in Somerset Two South, meaning that their Thirds, who finished third last season, could not be promoted because of a league rule preventing two sides from the same club being in the same league. As they were the next best placed side, North Petherton Seconds have been moved up as a result. See below for a diagram of the new league structure for the South West and a list of the teams that the club will be facing next season.

The coming season promises to be both challenging and exciting for all of North Petherton's players, with the First Team competing at their highest ever league level and facing long away days in Cornwall. After struggling to compete with the top sides in Somerset Three South last season, North Petherton Seconds will have to raise their game to meet the demands of playing in a much stronger league next season.
