Pethy earn first away win but Seconds lose to a late converted try

North Petherton continued from where they had left off against Stothert & Pitt the previous week to overcome league leaders Wells and gain their first ever away victory in the Somerset Premier. Pethy started quickly in this match establishing a 10-nil lead in the first ten minutes, including an excellent team try featuring some great off-loading and support play that was finished off by hooker Sam Williams.

Full-back Tom Williams was also in good form with the boot, keeping Petherton ahead after Wells responded with a try and penalty of their own. The decisive moment came just before the break when good work from a Pethy re-start by the outstanding Harley Brown held up two defenders, and a good off-load put Lloyd Williams into a gap that he fully exploited to run in from 30 metres and score near the posts. Pethy kept up the pressure at the start of the second half but only came away with a further Tom Williams penalty before they had to withstand a late Wells comeback to seal a second win in a row. In other Somerset Premier results, Burnham-On-Sea moved into top spot with a big win over Chew Valley, whilst Tor also maintained their unbeaten start to stay level on points with Burnham by beating Stothert & Pitt. Old Sulians remain the only side to have lost all their games so far after losing away at Chard. North Petherton are now up to fourth place in the table. All of the weekend's results can be seen below.

In Somerset Three South North Petherton Seconds were denied a second win in a row by a last minute converted try in a typically feisty encounter at Chard. Having led for 78 minutes thanks to 18 points scored by Lloyd Steward, Chard sealed a good second-half comeback to snatch the win at the death. Pethy welcomed back Captain Larry Steward for his first match of the season and this helped galvanize his side into upping their performance from recent matches. However, as Pethy tired towards the end they couldn't quite hold on for the win. Click here to read the match report.

In other results, Weston Thirds, Chard Thirds and Castle Cary remain unbeaten in the league. Petherton have dropped down to eighth place after their defeat and will need a good run of results now if they are to remain in touch with top two sides Weston and Wiveliscombe Seconds.
