First victory earns 2 points and progress in the Somerset Vase

North Petherton gained their first win of the season on Saturday thanks to a great second-half performance at home against Stothert & Pitt. Trailing by 8 points at half-time and under the cosh thanks to the high number of penalties that they had conceded, Pethy tightened up their game after the break to score 27 points, before Stothert gained a consolation try in the last minute. Petherton's forwards were again in top form, with the back-row of Ben Tarr, Keith Robinson, Matt Brown, and Mike Taylor in the second half, particularly effective for the home side.

Petherton's backs also began to find some of their form during the match with fly-half Lloyd Williams making some great breaks and wing Ben Williams scoring another good try for the second week running. Pethy's other tries came from Ben Tarr (2), Matt Brown, and Kyle Prescott. Read the match report by clicking here.

The other results in Somerset Premier from the weekend again illustrate how competitive the league is shaping up to be. After just two rounds of matches only Wells still have a 100% record, with only three teams remaining unbeaten. After drawing against each other last week, Tor and Burnham-On-Sea are the other unbeaten sides following victories over Midsomer Norton and Winscombe. Pethy are now sat in sixth place in the table, level on points with six other sides. All of the weekend's results can be seen below.

In Somerset Three South, North Petherton Seconds were without a match as it was their turn to have a spare week in the 13-team division. Pethy have slipped one place to sixth in the table after the weekend's matches. Chard and Wellington's Third teams enjoyed big wins over Minehead and Winscombe's Third XV's, whilst Weston Thirds remain at the top of the table after being given a walkover victory by Wells Thirds. The First team face another challenging match this coming Saturday when they travel to top of the table side Wells. Wells beat Pethy 38-0 in the Somerset Vase last season and this promises to be a good measure of how much Pethy have improved since that match in February. The Second team will also be back in action with a trip to Chard Thirds, whilst the Colts have a match on Sunday afternoon at home to Sherbourne. Saturday's matches kick-off at 3pm and the Colts will be kicking-off at 2pm.
