North Petherton were beaten for the first time in a competitive fixture by Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday in the first round of the EDF Junior Vase. An interception try, scored from inside their own 22 as Pethy threatened to score the winning try themselves, was the difference in another close game between the two sides.
Pethy probably had the better of the posession and territory in the match, but Burnham proved to be more clinical with the chances they created, whilst Petherton failed to make the most of their opportunities. Tom Williams scored all of Petherton's points, including Pethy's only try when he finished off an excellent handling move following a quick turnover in the Burnham half. Read the match report here.
North Petherton Seconds began their Somerset Three South campaign with a disappointing defeat at home against Wells Thirds. In other results, last season's front runners Wiveliscombe Seconds were given a walkover victory by Hornets Thirds who could not raise a side. Likely front-ruuners Weston Thirds also got off to a winning start by crushing Morganians, and Castle Cary, who finished third last season, level on points with Pethy, also won at Burnham. All of the results can be seen below.
