North Petherton was shocked over the weekend by the tragic death of club member Josh Evans in a car accident on Friday evening near Taunton. Josh was a player at the club all through the mini ranks to the Colts and had recently returned to the club to play some senior rugby this season. Josh's parents John, currently the club's forwards coach, and Tracy, a member of the committee, were adament that this weekend's fixtures should go ahead. They also requested that the teams stayed for a drink or two after Saturday's matches to honour their much loved son. All of Pethy's players and teams were pleased to be able to keep John and Tracy's wishes. A minute's silence was held before Saturday's home matches, and again by the mini's and junior's on Sunday morning as a mark of respect.
Club Captain Lloyd Williams said: -
"It is a clear indication of the type of character and kind of friend Josh was by the shear number and sincerity of comments left by people on his facebook page. Josh, like his dad, was a player at the club, and had gone up through the minis ranks and trained and played some senior rugby. He was also a keen supporter of the club and was often found on the sidelines cheering the teams on, as well as suggesting how the game should be played, a trait clearly handed down by his dad.
As a club we will do all that is possible to help and support John, Tracy and their family through this desperate time. Everyone at the club seems to be lost for words, however our thoughts will continue to be with them."
