Two more wins for North Petherton's senior teams

Tom Williams strokes over another 3 points for Pethy
Another successful kick: Tom Williams (15) slots over a penalty as Harley Brown (3) and John Evans look on

North Petherton maintained their good run of form to overcome a tough Chard side at home on Saturday afternoon. After a bright start playing up the slope, Pethy led 8-0 thanks to a Tom Williams penalty and a great team try finished off by centre Chris Burge. However, Chard responded strongly, taking advantage of Matt Brown's sin-binning to score two converted tries through their powerful No.8. A third try scored by the Chard scrum-half gave the visitors a decent lead at the break, although this was cut to just 6 points thanks to 2 more penalties by Williams.

In the second-half the home side increased their intensity, particularly in the scrummage where they dominated their bigger opponents. Pethy were soon back in front when Lloyd Williams made the most of an overlap to dummy his way through the Chard defence to score, and another excellent passage of play was then clinically rounded off by Tom Williams to give the home side a decisive advantage. Tom Williams also added 2 conversions and 2 more penalties as Pethy threatened to run away with the match before a spirited late effort by Chard saw them gain a late penalty try to reduce their deficit. It was too late to effect the outcome though, and Petherton had picked up a third victory in a row. Read the match report here.

In other Somerset Premier results, Burnham-On-Sea remained at the top with a good win over Avon, and Tor remained level on points with them following a comfortable victory against Wells. Old Sulians remain at the bottom after their fourth defeat in a row, whilst Pethy are still in fourth place, just a point behind the leaders. All of the weekend's results can be seen below.

In Somerset Three South North Petherton Seconds collected their second win in four matches at home against Minehead Thirds. They totally dominated the first-half, racking up 44 points by the break. Amongst the try scorers were lock Wayne Pither, who was playing out on the wing, and Captain Larry Steward. However, they didn't continue their form in second period as a good effort from the visitors prevented the home side from scoring any further points. Read the match report here.

In other results, Weston Thirds had the weekend off but kept top spot on points difference from Wiveliscombe Seconds who hammered Winscombe Thirds at home. Castle Cary and Chard Thirds also maintained their 100% records although they have only played three matches and are 3rd and 4th in the table. Pethy have climbed one place to seventh after Saturday's results, which can be seen below.

The Second Team have a local derby to look forward to at home when they face their counterparts from Burnham-On-Sea. After some confusion last weekend, the Thirds will definately be in action this weekend away at Morganians Seconds. The Colts also have another match and will be away at Wiveliscombe. All matches kick-off at 3:00pm.
