North Petherton's excellent form in the league failed to carry over into the Cup on Sunday afternoon, as they were yet again knocked out in the Second Round of the Somerset Vase, this time away at Somerset One side Gordano. Various work committments for players had meant that Pethy arrived in Bristol on the back of a poor weeks training and without several players. However, they still fielded a team capable of winning, but struggled throughout to match the level and intensity of the home side, eventually losing 21-13. Read the match report here.
On Saturday afternoon a strong North Petherton Second Team travelled to Winscombe to take on a club XV in what turned out to be closely fought friendly match. Pethy mounted an excellent second half comeback to win after trailing 16-5 at the break. Several players dropped from the First team made their cases for selection next week with good performances, whilst Owen Irish marked his debut appearence with a try. Read the match report here.
Pethy's Third XV were also in action on Saturday afternoon when they faced a young Burnham team at home. With a side hastily thrown together that had an average age double that of their opponents, they struggled to cope with the pace of the visitors as they ran out comfortable winners. Petherton's tenacity was rewarded with a try by Kris Sewell in the second half, and they competed well throughout in what was an entertaining game. Read the match report here.
