A superb defensive effort sets up a great victory over the leaders

North Petherton snatched a great victory at the weekend over previously unbeaten league leaders Tor thanks to a last minute conversion by full-back Tom Williams. Trailing 15-9, and having been penned inside their own half for much of the second period, Pethy broke away for flanker Mike Taylor to barge his way over in the corner to finish off an incisive passage of play. Williams then converted the try from the touchline and into a strong wind to the delight of the home crowd and players.

This was a victory built on a strong defensive effort in the second half when Tor were in the ascendancy. Pethy restricted them to a penalty and a try after leading 9-7 at the break, with Mike Coles and Taylor prominent throughout with some tremendous tackling. Pethy's backs looked dangerous whenever they spread the ball wide, and scrum-half Neil Lennox serviced them well with some quick and accurate passing. Read the match report here.

Pethy's victory knocked Tor off the top spot after Burnham won convincingly at home against Chard to take over on points difference. Bristol Harlequins in third and Petherton in fourth are both just one point behind Burnham and Tor in the table. All of the weekends results can be seen below.
