Tom Williams (on the ground) makes a good tackle as Simon Gingell (about to steal the ball) and Wayne Pither (doing the swan dive!!) are also up quick in defence
North Petherton could feel somewhat hard done by after a disappointing defeat away at Old Culverhaysians. Although they did not do enough to win the match and were well beaten on the day, they felt that they were the victims of some particularly bad refereeing throughout what was a poor match in general. However, Culverhaysians played to the referee much better than the visiting side, and the home fly-half ruthlessly punished Pethy with an excellent display of penalty kicking that put Petherton out of the match by half-time. Read the match report here.
Petherton now find themselves in a familiar situation to the last couple of seasons whereby a promising start has been undone by a couple of poor results and bad turnouts at training. Pethy's players must really ask themselves just how much they want to move out of Somerset One and play the better style of rugby that they are aspiring to. Otherwise it will be another season of battling away with the physical teams from Bristol and Bath and the inevitable disappointment of losing against sides that Petherton know they can beat when they perform to their capabilities.
In the rest of Somerset One Nailsea, Burnham and Broad Plain continued their unbeaten starts with good victories, and the other results mean that Petherton are now in seventh place, their lowest league position for a couple of years. However, the season is far from over, and the sides promoted in second place in the last two years lost at least four matches during their promotion winning season's, so Pethy are not yet out of it. Nailsea already look like the outstanding team in the league, but there are several equally matched sides who are all capable of taking the second promotion spot this season. All of the results from the weekend can be seen below.

The Seconds, who were going to be fielding a somewhat depleted side, were still disappointed that their match against Crewkerne Seconds was cancelled on Friday evening. Crewkerne, who have struggled again this season to field a side, did not have enough available players to fulfill the fixture. Pethy have been awarded the two points for a walkover victory and remain joint top of Somerset Three South. All of the results from this weekend can be seen below.
