Front row (from left): Matt Glanville, Burt Cleverley, James Lees

North Petherton RFC President Phil Hamm conducted the proceedings
The annual rugby club dinner, held on the 27th of April, marked the end of another season for North Petherton. Although they missed out again on promotion, the club finished the season in third place as a result of their best unbeaten run in five years.

Second Team Vice-Captain Cameron Kirk gave the longest speech of the evening, not that anyone minded
The club was able to celebrate the continued improvements to the facilities at Beggar's Brook over the last year, which included the refurbishment of the President's Lounge and bar. The club continues to make progress on and off the pitch and are already looking towards next season with optimism. As part of the ongoing work off the pitch, Clive Pearn and Burt Cleverley were recognised on the evening by being given the Committee Person and Club Member of the Year awards respectively.

On the playing front there were a number of outstanding players in the Petherton side this season. The First Team Player of the Year trophy was awarded to back rower Simon Gingell whose consistently whole-hearted performances in the Petherton shirt earned him some deserved recognition after an excellent season.

Clive Pearn was given the Committee Member of the Year trophy
The Second Team Player of the Year award went to outstanding veteran Larry Steward who came out of retirement last year to help out the Seconds when they were short of players, and carried on playing throughout the year. The former First Team Captain and Bridgwater stalwart will also be taking on the Second Team captaincy for next season. |

The audience enjoying their dinner and some polite conversation
The most improved player award was given to Second Row Mike Coles whose powerful performances after moving up from the Second Team spear-headed some much improved forward play by the Petherton pack as the season progressed. The Player’s Player award went to influential full-back Tom Williams for the second year in a row. He again played a key role in Pethy’s season finishing as the club’s top try and points scorer with 13 tries and 224 points in total.

After the dinner came the entertainment of the various speeches
The First Team and Second Team Captain’s Tankards were given to Matt Glanville and Chris Wand respectively. Matt Glanville was chosen due to his work on the club’s website and Chris Wand was recognised for his commitment and consistent performances for the Second Team this year.
There were also some club badges presented to three players who all passed the 50 appearance mark for the First Team over the last season. These were awarded to Matt Glanville, Miles McNeillie, and Tom Williams. The last trophy of the evening, and possibly the most important, was presented to club treasurer Gary Coles, who was given the bullshit horns for being the person who had done the most to uphold the noble art of bullshitting over the last year.
