The 2nd Annual North Petherton Sevens - May 12th 2007

The Cup Finalists - Winners the Usual Suspects and runners up Old Reds Pictures taken by Chris Hancock The Second North Petherton Sevens was held on the 12th of May 2007 and the tournament was eventually won by last year's runners up the Usual Suspects. There were 24 teams in the draw this year, although there were a couple of late withdrawals including last year's winners the Templars. North Petherton entered two sides, although their squad of players ended up guesting for other sides entered by Petherton players such as Team Boycee, Gallagher's Aces, and the All Stars. Unfortunately they did better for those teams than they did for themselves, eventually losing in the Bowl final to the West Country Cavaliers. North Petherton's promising colts team for next season also entered two teams into the tournament and acquitted themselves very well by both reaching the Plate quarter-finals. The Plate competition was eventually won by the Gypsy Bar Baas for the second year in a row. Draw

Due to the withdrawal of the Templars, and the subsequent withdrawals of the Hippos and the Monkeys teams after the first two rounds of group matches, all games against one of these sides (after they pulled out) were given as 25-0 walkover victories to the opposing sides in the group stages. After the group games the Gallagher's Aces and Team Boycee sides dropped out of the tournament because North Petherton's tiring squad of players could not fulfil all of the fixtures.
