Pethy finish the season with an 11 match unbeaten run

North Petherton did just enough to win a scrappy match in the bright sunshine at Crewkerne on Saturday. The victory meant that Pethy secured third place in the league, their highest finish since they were relegated from the Somerset Premier in 2004. This, and the fact that Pethy extended their unbeaten run to 11 games, their best run of form since finishing second in 2002, was the main positive to be taken from a largely forgettable performance against a side who have only won three league games this season. Read the match report here.

In other Somerset One results champions Winscombe finished their impressive league campaign with their 21st win out of 22 league games. Old Sulians, who will also be promoted alongside the league winners, racked up another high scoring victory as they went past the 900 point mark for the season. All of the results from this weekend can be seen below.

Somerset One Results - Sat 14th April 2007

Bristol Barbarians 5 - 54 Winscombe
Broad Plain 32 - 44 Old Sulians
Crewkerne 13 - 22 North Petherton
Martock 41 - 17 Imperial
Old Culverhaysians 7 - 43 Burnham on Sea
Somerton 0 - 71 Wiveliscombe

The Second team also finished their league season in style with a thrilling last minute victory over local rivals Morganians. Veteran fly-half Mark Sutherland-Earl was the hero, scoring under the posts with the last play of the match, and finishing with a personal haul of 23 points. Read the match report here.

In other Somerset Three results Bridgwater made sure of finishing top with another thrashing of league whipping boys Crewkerne Seconds, whilst Wells Seconds maintained their equally impressive league record to finish just one point behind Albion Thirds in the table. At the moment both sides are likely to be playing in an expanded Somerset Two South division next season, along with third placed Weston Thirds and fourth placed Morganians, which will hopefully lead to some more evenly matched fixtures for the remaining sides next season.

Somerset Three South Results - Sat 14th April 2007

Bridgwater & Alb III 110 - 0 Crewkerne II
Castle Cary 64 - 5 Burnham on S II
North Petherton II 43 - 36 Morganians
Taunton III HWO Hornets III

There are now no further fixtures for this season for any of Petherton's senior sides, although there is the upcoming North Petherton Sevens tournament to look forward to at Beggars Brook on Saturday 12th May. The first match will likely kick-off at around 10:30am.
