Petherton win local derby
North Petherton continued their unbeaten run in Somerset One with an excellent performance at Burnham-On-Sea. The Petherton pack laid the platform for a convincing 31-0 victory by dominating the set piece and denying the hosts any decent possession. It was a further improvement in Pethy's away form as they kept the penalty count much lower than in previous weeks and prevented the home side from creating any good try scoring opportunities. Petherton's win was the biggest of the day in the league, and results elsewhere suggest that there are likely to be a few sides fighting for promotion this season. Winscombe, Old Sulians, and Broad Plain also continued their unbeaten starts to the season with victories on the road. Petherton are now up to second in the league behind Old Sulians on points difference. All of Saturday's results are below.
Somerset One Results - Sat 30th September 2006
Petherton's Seconds failed to take their chances at home to Weston Thirds as they went down 32-14 in what was a closely fought match until the final minutes, when Weston broke away to finish the home side off. Read the match report here.
Castle Cary and Bridgwater Thirds were the big winners this weekend in Somerset Three, whilst Morganians narrowly failed to end Wells Seconds unbeaten start to the season. However Burnham Seconds continue to struggle for players and were forced to cancel their match at Taunton Thrids because they could not raise a side. The Second team are now in eighth position in the Somerset Three South division. All of the results from Saturday can be seen below.
