North Petherton's patched up team showed great determination as they overcame a visiting Broad Plain side who had beaten them comfortably when they met just 5 weeks ago in Bristol. Despite missing several players through injury, and with a number of players playing out of position, Petherton defended brilliantly throughout and a dominant 20 minute spell of attacking rugby either side of half-time produced enough points for hard-earned victory. Read the match report here.
In other Somerset One results, the top two met again but with a different outcome as second placed Winscombe drew level on points with leaders Old Sulians with a good away win. Unfortunately for the chasing pack, this now leaves the rest of the sides in the top half with a mountain to climb if they are to provide any sort of promotion challenge to the top two, who both remain 6 points clear of third-placed Wiveliscombe. All of the results from this weekend can be seen below.
Somerset One Results - Sat 16th December 2006

The Second team were presented with the near impossible task of facing Hornets Thirds away from home with only 14 players due to injuries and first team call-ups. However, they still managed to make a game of it, before going down 49-8. Bridgwater Thirds and Wells Seconds remain the dominant teams in the Somerset Three South league, occupying the top two spots and remaining 6 points clear of their nearest rivals. All of this weekends results are below.

There are now no fixtures until the 6th of January due to the Christmas break. When league commitments resume, Petherton will be hoping to have some of their players back from injury as they face the tough prospect of playing Winscombe and then Old Sulians first up in the new year. The Seconds will also be hoping to have more players available when they face Taunton Thirds at home on the 6th.
