Petherton slump to a fourth successive league defeat

Broad Plain inflicted a fourth league defeat in a row as Pethy's poor recent run of results continued this weekend. In a bad-tempered match Petherton were unable to rise above the aggressive tactics employed by the home side, and with their scrum again struggling against a heavier pack, could not secure enough possession to create any sustained pressure on the Broad Plain defence. The match report can be read here.

North Petherton have now slipped to seventh in the league, their lowest position since returning to Somerset One two years ago. Whilst a number of injuries and unavailability's in the front five has weakened the side over the last few weeks, Pethy have been unable to maintain the form they demonstrated at the beginning of the season, and a renewed commitment to training is going to be needed from the club's players to turn this season around.

Elsewhere in Somerset One, Old Sulians won the top of the table clash against Winscombe and are now the only unbeaten side left in the division. Somerton's difficult season continued as they were unable to raise a side for the second time this year, giving Bristol Barbarians a walkover victory. Wiveliscombe maintained their recent good form with a fourth victory in a row at Old Culverhsaysians.

Somerset One Results - Sat 11th November 2006

There was not any joy for the Second Team either as First Team call-ups left them again relying heavily upon the club's veterans as they went down at home against Hornets Thirds. The match report can be read here. The Seconds are now in tenth place in the league, although they are still 8 points above the bottom two who are now on -4 points each after Crewkerne Seconds were again unable to raise a side. Bridgwater Thirds are now the only unbeaten side in the league after Wells Seconds lost for the first time this season at Weston-Super-Mare.

Somerset Three South Results - Sat 11th November 2006

There are no league fixtures this week, but the Firsts are in cup action twice at the weekend. On Saturday they travel to Devon One leaders Bideford in the third round of the EDF Junior Vase, and on Sunday they travel to nearby Burnham-On-Sea for a second round Somerset Vase tie.
