NPRFC - Under 7's & 8's vs Cheddar

Sunday morning saw us travelling to Glastonbury for a 3 club series of matches against Tor and Cheddar. The weather was fine with beautiful clear blue skies but a deceptively cold wind.

We had been working in training at some set moves and especially of getting the players when tagged to pass the ball quickly, preferably to some running at full speed. Only time would tell whether we were successful !

MATCH 1

It was really the same story as the last few away games. We were very slow to start against a very good and well drilled Cheddar team. Pethy were quickly 5 tries to one down and never recovered. Generally in defence this was our worst performance of the year by some way with everyone missing tags throughout the game. We are however still a potent force in attack and this match was no exception with 4 tries from Sam Cobb, 3 from Ben Jackson, 1 from Nick Payne and an exceptional individual try from Oscar Hallett.

MATCH 2

After a break and some introspection about their performance from the team, it was a very different group of Pethy players that turned up for the second match. This was very much a reversal of when we played Tor at home in November 2009 – We were generally older and bigger and dominated the game particularly in defence where we turned the ball over on a number of occasions with Tor using up their 6 tag allocation without scoring.

The training ground set moves worked well in attack with Nick Payne (3 tries) and Ben Jackson (2 tries) in particular hitting the line and taking the ball at speed which made for some impressive scoring. Sam Cobb, who had been poorly this week with a tummy bug, added a further 5 tries to add to his tally of 4 from the first game.
