7th February 2010 - Under 7's & 8's vs Weston-Super-Mare

Report by Simon Marshall

Last time we played Weston at their place in Weston it was torrential rain which made it pretty grim for players and parents alike.  Today was much better and a very large squad made it to Beggars Brook.  Again we struggled to get an under 8 side so it was decided to play 2 games at under 7 and then our under 7 first team would play Weston under 8’s.

MATCH 1

An excellent all round performance from a very good Pethy team. Overall defence was much better than our last game.  This is a team with speed in abundance as tries from Sam Cobb (4), Ben Jackson (2) Oscar Hallett (2), Nick Payne (1) and Archie Attwood (1) who grows in confidence every week with ball in hand and continues to tag like a demon.

FINAL SCORE NORTH PETHERTON 50 – WESTON 30

TEAM – Oliver Halliday (Captain), Sam Cobb Oscar Hallett, Ben Jackson, Nicholas Payne,
Archie Attwood, Patrick Lockyer.

MATCH 2

A very young an inexperienced Pethy team played the younger members of Weston under 7’s.  Although they fought bravely Pethy were behind for most of the game due mainly to a couple of more experienced players in the Weston team.  Again some very good individual scores from Will Grant (3), Tristan Marshall (2), with George Small, Will Dyer and James Madeley with one a piece.

FINAL SCORE NORTH PETHERTON  40  –  WESTON 50

TEAM – Thomas Small (Captain), Tristan Marshall, Nathaniel Warren, Matthew Dixon, Daniel Osianka, George Small, Will Grant, Will Dyer, James Madeley

MATCH 3

Match 3 saw our best under 7’s team take on the Weston under 8’s.  The Weston team were well organised and played well as a team.  Our youngsters tried their hardest but for a bunch of boys who normally score pretty much at will, they found the Weston defence a bit too organised and hard to break through.  Unfortunately the further Pethy got behind in terms of score the more people tried things individually when what was really need was to work closely as a team.  Towards the end that perennial favourite this season, stepping in to touch appeared again as a problem, and something we need to work on in training.

FINAL SCORE NORTH PETHERTON  25  –  WESTON 45

TEAM – Oliver Halliday (Captain), Sam Cobb Oscar Hallett, Ben Jackson, Nicholas Payne, Archie Attwood, Patrick Lockyer, Will Grant, George Small.
