Pethy inflict heavy defeat on Wellington

25/10/08 - Colts Friendly: North Petherton 45 v 7 Wellington

Report from the Bridgwater Mercury

Colts coach Kim O'Connor was delighted with his side's performance in a game tinged with sadness following the tragic death of local youngster Josh Evans.

A minute's silence was held before kick-off as a mark of respect to the 21-year-old, who died following a car accident on Friday night. O'Connor said: "All of our thoughts are very much with Josh's parents, John and Tracy Evans, at this difficult time. It is a sad and tragic loss; Josh was well known and well liked by all at the club and our condolances go out to his family."

North Petherton struggled at times in the first half due to having uncontested scrums which disrupted their game structure and went in 10-7 up at half-time.

The home side started to get to grips with the game in the second half and a lot of training ground moves started to come good and their performance improved greatly, setting up a comfortable win.

O'Connor said: "There are still things to look at in training on Thursday, but it was a great performance in the second half and a great result."

Scorers: Tries — Cooke, Harris (2), Blake-Fuller, Gibbs, Palmer, Donaghue. Conversions — Dan Pearce (5).
