With Petherton first team's Somerset Vase tie at Wells postponed by the weather, their third string was strengthened slightly for this fixture at Beggars Brook on Saturday.

Winger Luke Williams rounds the Ivel full-back to score his first try
First-team centre Rob Havill and lock Mike Coles both turned out, while senior-side skipper Lloyd Williams had ten minutes at the end of the match. Mobile forward Ben Harvey returned after having not played for two months.

The second-team pitch at Beggars Brook was in excellent condition and a young Ivel side played their part in an excellent, open game.

Sam Williams was a menace to the opposition throughout
They made the better start, taking the game to Petherton, and went ahead with a penalty goal after ten minutes.

Powerhouse Mike Coles smashes through a couple of tackles
Bridgwater & Albion Colts' fly-half Sam Williams, playing for his home club because the colts' game was off, had an outstanding match at No 10 for Pethy and he and Havill began to cause Ivel all sorts of problems.

Nick Pocock bursts through this ruck
A Sam Williams pass enabled Havill to make a break, which ended with teenage wing Luke Williams scoring in the corner. Then great handling by the home backs, including full-back Carl, only an occasional player, enabled Luke Williams to score again, making the half-time score 10-3.

Full-back Carl on the ball
The home side made a lot of changes in the second half, including bringing on Harvey, whose powerful ball-carrying left tacklers scattered in his wake. He scored two tries in this manner, one of them from halfway.

Lloyd Steward sprints down the wing
Havill and Sam Williams were also punching holes and they crossed for a try apiece, with Lloyd Williams scoring near the end. Centre Lloyd Steward landed four conversions.

Ben Harvey (4) runs in his first try
Some of the Pethy veterans did well. Bill Frost had a fine game at prop, as did Clarence Clatworthy, who started at No 8 and played on the wing in the second half. His 20-yard drop-goal attempt will be talked about for years.
