31/10/09 - Tribute Somerset Two South: North Petherton II 64 v 5 Martock

Report by Ben Williams

31/10/09.
Somerset 2 South.
North Petherton II’s 64 v Martock 5.

Martock travelled to North Petherton with only 12 players after several cry-offs in the morning. Petherton however with several players back from unavailability from the previous week were able to lend them three players to make a game of it.

Petherton dominated from the start with some strong scrummaging and powerful running in the loose and quickly scored through Lloyd Steward on the left wing with young fly half Harry Roberts missing the resulting conversion. Petherton then became too greedy trying to run everything and forgetting how to play as a team. The only other scores in a scrappy first half were tries by second row Ben Harvey and scrum half Karl Jarvis with Roberts landing one conversion, a penalty and drop goal. Petherton finished the half with a lead of 23-0.

After some strong words at half time by the captain Ben Williams, Petherton came out as a more united team, with some good interlinking play resulting in several quick tries by centre Jamie Adams, who eventually scored a hat trick. Other tries scored were by Colts captain Aaron Gibbs, Andy Long, Rob Havill, and replacemt scrum half Kev Rybaruk.

Credit has to be given to Martock who kept playing throughout. Their only score came from Petherton's young hooker Ben Sellick playing on their right wing who cleanly took a cross field kick to score in the corner.

Thanks to Ben Sellick, Dan Pearce and Lee Palmer for playing for Martock.

Next Game: Away v Somerton 7th November.
