North Petherton welcomed back both Captain Ben Williams and Vice Captain Miles McNellie back to the starting line up with later having played the start of the season in the first xv. Petherton dominated from the off against a smaller Wells side with the forwards out muscling the opposition with a number of scrummages won against the head at the start. The first try came from a well work catch and drive from the line out with a strong run from Miles McNellie resulting in the try, which was converted by Mike Stevens.
Petherton then struggled for the following 20 minutes or so with both sides conceding penalties for various infridgements around the breakdown area. Petherton lost prop Jamie Jennings to the sin bin for retaliation following a couple of exchanges with his opposite number. This led to a period of pressure on the defence, which stood up well. Following Jennings return Petherton moved up the hill gaining good territory, resuling in a penalty attempt which was pushed wide. In the last few minutes of the first half following some good passing up the right hand side of the pitch Miles McNellie went over in the corner for his and Pethys second try, the conversion was missed. Pethy went into half time leading 12-0.
The second half started off more fiercely with Wells coming at Pethy with some hard aggressive running, but Pethys defence held out well. Petherton then scored first with a penalty from Stevens. This was quickly followed up with a quality backs move with full back Sam Tozer hitting the line late and taking a flat pass off fly half Jonathan Sutherland-Earl to score under the posts for a converted try. The next try followed quickly with Vice Captain Mc Nellie breaking down the right following a ruck in Pethys 22, he off loaded to Captain Ben Williams to sprint in from the 10 metre line beating two players with his electric pace. The resulting conversion was made, giving Pethy a 27-0 lead.
Petherton then started to run riot in the loose, with second row Mike Coles and Wayne Pither making surging runs which set up scrum half Stevens to score a converted try. Number 8 Adrian Tew in his first game of the season was next on the score sheet, with Stevens converting. The game was wrapped up with the final score in the last 5 minutes from Miles McNellie grabbing his third of the game, the conversion was missed.
This was Pethertons best performance of the season following a slow start and with a number of players returning from injury and unavailability in both the firsts and the seconds, the rest of the season looks good for Petherton rugby.
