Petherton Seconds should have racked up more points against a young Castle Cary side at Beggars Brook on Saturday. However, the visitors proved adept at killing the ball and also slowed it down so that Pethy were often frustrated.
Although the first team were without a game, the only senior player to start for the seconds was No 8 James Lees. Several others came on as replacements in the second half.
There was no score until right on half time, when Bridgwater & Albion Colts' fly-half Sam Williams, guesting once again for his home club, scored an unconverted try.
Early in the second half, promising colts' wing Mike Stevens, son of ex-first-teamer Mark "Dinger" Stevens, went over and Lloyd Steward converted.
After a Cary penalty goal had made it 12-3, Stevens struck again, this time after an excellent move. A second Cary penalty was followed by a typical try from second-row powerhouse Wayne Pither, who forced his way over from ten metre's. Dan Steward converted.
Stevens impressed for Pethy, while Kev Gray, who was sin-binned for stamping, Sam Williams, hooker Steve Stone and Pither also had good games.
