Seconds have a day to forget

22/09/07 - Tribute Somerset Three South: Castle Cary 36 v 5 North Petherton II

Report from the Bridgwater Mercury

Petherton Seconds lost their 100% record to Castle Cary's first team on Saturday, when they never got going.

They weren't helped by a couple of players not turning up, as well as injuries to No 8 Chris Mantyk and skipper Larry Steward. Mantyk's knee popped as he scored Pethy's only try to make it 12-5 at half time.

Steward, playing in the second row, was beginning to get up a head of steam when back and calf injuries forced him off.

The visitors had most of the play in the second half, but couldn't score and Castle Cary scored three late tries to give themselves a flattering margin of victory.

Although replacement Sam Williams played well when he went on, the seconds failed to approach the sort of form that had brought them three big victories.
