Fielding a side hastily put together just before kick-off, Pethy were little match for the powerful Morgs forwards during the first 30 minutes as they struggled to get into the game. With a scrum that was being shoved backwards at will by the visiting pack, it was difficult for Pethy Seconds to get the ball out to their backs from any set-piece.
It was set-piece moves that allowed Morgs to quickly score the opening two tries of the match, before Pethy finally got some territory and possession in the Morgs half and scored a try of their own through Centre John Gallagher. However, they were soon back defending in their own 22 and the Morgs forwards rumbled over for two more tries before half-time.
In the second half though Pethy were able to gel together a little better and got themselves back into a game that they had looked like losing by a substantial amount. They scored two more tries through John Gallagher again and fellow centre Archie Walford, with scrum-half Tom Stanley converting both. However, Morgs also scored two more well-worked tries themselves to seal a deserved victory.
Given their start to the game the Seconds can be pleased with their efforts in what was a difficult match for them. They will be bolstered in the pack for their next match with a number of players due to return from injury and holiday, including influential captain Larry Steward.
