Pethy Seconds' struggles continue at Wells

03/11/07 - Tribute Somerset Three South: Wells III 27 v 17 North Petherton II

Report from the Bridgwater Mercury

Petherton Seconds' poor form continued at Wells, where their first-up tackling left a lot to be desired, although their scrum and line-out had improved.

They dominated the first 15 minutes down the slope and led 10-8 at half time with a try by lock Wayne Pither, converted by fly-half Mark Sutherland-Earl, who also kicked a penalty goal.

Wells scored three quick tries early in the second half and it was game over as Pethy could not get going behind the scrum. However, a try by outstanding full-back Archie Walford, converted by Sutherland-Earl, got them back to 20-17 with 15 minutes left before Wells went over for the clinching score.

Steve Stone had a good game at hooker, while the ageless Sutherland-Earl also played well.

H/T: 8-10

Tries: Pither, Walford

Cons: Sutherland-Earl (2)

Pens: Sutherland-Earl
