Steward's and Potter lead the way as Pethy rack up 14 tries

31/03/07 - Somerset Three South: Crewkerne II 7 v 95 North Petherton II

Report from the Bridgwater Mercury

The referee gave the official result of this one-sided contest as 88-7, and the reported score to the rfu became 67-0, but when Petherton totalled things up, their score actually came to 95. They scored 14 tries, 11 of them converted by fly-half Mark Sutherland-Earl, who had also landed a penalty in the first minute.

Both sides began with 14 men before they were made up to full strength during the first half, but Crewkerne lost a player to injury in the second period.

Powerful second row Wayne Pither opened the scoring for Pethy, who had gone 59-0 ahead down the slope and against the wind by half time. Veteran No 8 Larry Steward and his sons Ollie and Lloyd scored five tries between them, while wing Steve Potter crossed four times. The other try-scorers were Kev Gray, Sutherland-Earl, Kev Rybaruk and Chris Wand.

Morganians' Jeremy McBain turned out at prop for Pethy because his team's match had been called off and played well in an intelligent team performance which featured some fine running rugby.
