Weston were too streetwise for Petherton Seconds at Beggars Brook on Saturday, making sure that any ball they won was always slowed down at the rucks and mauls.
The home line-up included former Petherton and Bridgwater & Albion powerhouse Larry Steward, who retired some years ago, but was outstanding in the second row. His son Lloyd was also playing for Petherton in the centre.
Great play between Mark Sutherland-Earl, Cameron Kirk, and Nathan Chillingworth brought Sutherland-Earl a try, which he converted, to leave the home side 12-7 down until five minutes before half-time when Weston scored two quick tries.
In the second-half Larry Steward powered over from a line-out for Sutherland-Earl to again convert, but Weston finished strongly with two further tries. Petherton’s cause was not helped when both Archie Walford and Kev Grey were sin-binned, Walford along with an opponent who claimed that the Petherton player had punched him in deflecting a hand-off.
