The referee abandoned this match with ten minutes left after having sent off a Chard prop and sin-binned Petherton centre Sam Chillingworth. He refused even to let the home side take the penalty that resulted from the sending-off offence which was right in front of the posts.
Chard were in aggressive mood from the start, with Pethy’s ex-first team skipper Shaun Haggett, in his season’s debut, having to have stitches above his eye after being elbowed in the first five minutes.
The visitors continued in the same manner for most the match and led 15-0 at half time. Pethy hit back with a try by first team full-back Tom Williams, who had been unable to travel to the cup match at Bideford. Centre Sam Chillingworth also went over and Williams converted as the home side dominated completely in the second half, with the half-back pairing of Stuart Pearn and Williams, along with centres Simon Midgely and Sam, terrific in defence throughout.
