Petherton Seconds were overpowered by a heavy Weston pack on Saturday, as the home team scored mainly through forward drives.
The visitors had a strong-looking line-up, with first-team prop Harley Brown returning after injury. The pack also included ex-first-team skipper Mark Innalls and Bridgwater & Albion third-teamer Clive Paisey.
Wayne Pither, another recruit from Spaxton, made his debut and looked difficult to stop on the wing. But Petherton found it hard to get going until the last 15 minutes of the first half, when flanker Phil Hambley, who had a good game, was tackled just short after a Brown break.
They trailed only 7-0 at the interval and missed another scoring chance when the ball was dropped with only the last man to beat. After that, the Weston forwards took over again, despite the play of centre Chris Mantyk, who never missed a tackle.
Petherton tried to give everyone in their 21-strong squad a game with rolling subs, but that didn't help continuity.
