A rearguard action in the last 20 minutes earned Petherton Seconds their fourth league victory of the season against Castle Cary's first team.
They should have won by a larger margin, but dropped passes and wrong options cost them several scores. Down the slope, they led 19-7 at half-time with tries by impressive centre Sam Hore, wing Brian Stenson and centre Ross O'Connor, two of them converted by fly-half Mark Sutherland-Earl.
The first 20 minutes of the second half were all Petherton, but they wasted possession. Then Castle Cary took over for the last 20 minutes, as the home side brought on their replacements, and they were attacking strongly when the final whistle blew. A Cary player was red-carded right at the end for punching.
Stand-out players for the home side were Hore, flanker Chris Mantyk and veteran No 8 Larry Steward, until a hamstring injury forced him off at half-time.
