Hornets prove too strong in the last 15 minutes

11/11/06 - Somerset Three South: North Petherton II 12 v 41 Hornets III

Report from the Bridgwater Mercury

The Second Team were trailing by only 7 points with 15 minutes left of the match when they introduced some young replacements with little experience of playing rugby. Hornets were able to take advantage of this and ran in several tries towards the end of the match.

The visitors had two outstanding players in midfield that gave them the edge. The home forwards battled well against a hard-scrummaging side, especially as flanker Mike Gray had to fill-in at prop until Jamie Jennings arrived at half-time. Hooker Gary 'Rocker' Coles, and fellow prop Rob Keirle were outstanding for the home-side.

At No.8 veteran Larry Steward made good yardage and his son Lloyd, playing at full-back, scored both of Petherton's tries, one of them converted by fly-half Mark Sutherland-Earl.

Hornets led only 12-7 at half-time and it remained a closer match than the scoreline suggests until their late changes proved costly for them.
