Pethy unable to convert pressure into points

30th January 2010 - Tribute Western Counties West: Bude 14 - 7 North Petherton

Report by Simon Gingell

Pethy arrived at a snowy and cold Bude full of hope that a bad run of defeats could be halted. Straight from kickoff North Petherton took possession of the ball and didn't let go of it for much of the first half. All they had for all this possession was a converted Matt Angel try.

The lack of a cutting edge came back to haunt Pethy with vengeance in the second half. After matt brown went off with a leg injury, work horse mike Taylor succumbed to a rib injury and with no more back row replacements on the bench, winger Chris Burge stepped up to play flanker. This wasn't an excuse for what was to follow.

Bude drew level after a line out and drive close to the Pethy line resulting in a converted try. They then took the lead with a try out of the blue from a mid field break, finished under the posts.14-7 game over.

The match was dominated by North Petherton both possession and territory wise. The Bude coach was almost embarrassed that his side had won, but win they did. Heartbreak and a sickening loss for Pethy.
