6th March 2010 - Tribute Western Counties West:
North Petherton 31 - 6 Kingsbridge

Report by Matt Angel

Due to The West India House and Gary Roles Fencing Sponsoring the match, Pethy had one of their largest crowds this season.

Pethy started this game playing up the slope and targeted the first 20 minutes as the biggest they have faced this season. An early penalty to the visitors gave them a 0-3 nil lead, but this gave Pethy the kick they needed. The homes side’s first points of the afternoon came after a good break by capt Lloyd Williams who had Tom Williams in support to feed and score in the corner. Tom then converted his try to take the home side into a 7-3 lead. The rest of the half Pethy’s forwards dominated and also the backs looked dangerous in attack and the team’s defence held up strong.

Kingsbridge conceded many penalties, mainly due to good tackling by Pethy, which meant the visitors were getting isolated. Leading up to half time Tom was successful with 3 penalties.

5 minutes before half time each side were reduced to 14 players due to yellow cards being awarded. The Kingsbridge 10 was accurate with a penalty kick just before half time making it 16-6 to the hosts at the interval.

Tom slotted another penalty early in the second half as another visitor had a rest for 10 minutes. The Oaks’ second try of the afternoon came after a cross field kick which was gathered and well finished off by centre James Carter, Tom again converting.

Play was held up for 20 minutes due to a bad injury to a Kingsbridge player. After the injury the home team found themselves defending their line against a 5 meter scrum. Solid scrummaging and good defence allowed the ball to be cleared to safety.

Winger Chris Burge was the last person to cross the whitewash for the afternoon bringing the final score to a well deserved 31-6 victory for the home team.

All of the players had massive games, Lloyd Williams controlled things well at 10, Matt Ranson and Dave Hallaran played in different positions this week, both putting in strong performances. It was the best the team has played together all season.

Also everyone at NPRFC would like to wish the Kingsbridge player a speedy recovery from his broken leg.

Many thanks to this weeks match sponsors, West India House and Gary Roles Fencing. Who all stayed after the match and celebrated a massive win for Pethy.
