6th February 2010 - Tribute Western Counties West: Tavistock 14 - 21 North Petherton

North Petherton went to Tavistock on Saturday looking for their first win in 4 games. They started the better of the two teams with both the forwards and the backs causing the home side trouble. The scoreboard started moving when after some good work from the pack allowed Simon "spud" Ranson to cross the line for his first try in Pethy colours. The conversion was missed by normally reliable kicker Tom Williams. He did however add a penalty later in the half. Tavistock's first half try came from a simple move and two missed tackles within the visitors 22. This was converted along with a penalty later in the half making the score 10-8 at the half time break.

Pethy continued their dominance in the second half, but were struggling to score. Tom Williams was having an off day with the boots, struggling both with an injury and a lack of a suitable tee. He did eventually slot one penalty to put Pethy back in the lead. Tavistock were next to score after a break away deep in their own 22m, which was well finished and converted, 11 - 17. This gave Pethy a wake up call, realising tries were required. And that’s what they did, firstly when Craig Goodwin finished of a well worked backs move and secondly Sam Williams scored after the forwards pushed their way over from a 5m lineout. Neither were converted, which left for a nail biting finish as Tavistock threw everything they had to get the score and Pethy seemed to turn over the ball every few minutes.
