Pethy punished for lack of concentration

17/01/09 - Friendly: North Petherton 10 v 28 Wellington

Report by Lloyd Williams

Pethy felt that they had control of this game for 60 - 65 mins, taking a 7 – 0 lead early on with a great team try, finished off by Mike Taylor and converted by Tom Williams. Pethy seem to dictate play, lineouts were functioning well, and the scrums were outstanding. The Pethy pack were pushing Wellington around at most scrums.

The backs, even with some new faces and players in different positions performed well, Tom Williams and Damien Griffen controlled the game well with excellent kicking games. Against the run of play Wellington scored a try in the corner and the half time score was 10 – 5. Pethy had missed a massive opportunity to get a good score on the board.

The second half continued the same until the last quarter, when Pethy lost concentration and conceded 3 soft tries. Wellington seemed to take control and began to run the ball more from Pethy turnovers.

They seemed to be just that little bit more drilled and 3 quick tries were on the scoreboard in a flash, when it really mattered.

After not really taking notice of the final score the players worked it out in the bar afterwards and said how the score didn’t really reflect the game, there was lots to be happy with, as well as lots to work on in training, as long as the commitment to training is there.

Pethy have a massive home league game against Avon, who they narrowly beat away, they must get things going in order to continue their push for promotion.
