Pethy hammer hapless Martock

03/11/07 - Tribute Somerset One: Martock 0 v 117 North Petherton

Report from the Bridgwater Mercury

Centre Rob Havill scored six of Petherton's 17 tries as they racked up a record score at Martock on Saturday.

The bottom-of-the-table home side, who have used nearly 50 players this season, have now conceded 546 points in seven matches.

They couldn't be faulted for effort and commitment, tackling to the end, but Petherton took full advantage of their lack of organisation in defence.

Outside centre Havill used his pace and cut great lines, many from moves practised on the training ground, to score five of his tries in the first half.

Other first-half try-scorers were second row Nick Pocock, who sidestepped the full-back neatly, scrum-half Kev Rybaruk, poaching at the back of a Martock put-in, full-back Tom Williams and fly-half/skipper Lloyd Williams.

Tom Williams gave a remarkable kicking display, converting all but one of the 17 tries, some from wide out, and only narrowly missing a full house of kicks. He also completed a hat-trick of tries, making his points tally for the afternoon 47 and more than doubling his tally for the season.

Other try-scorers in the second half were Lloyd Williams, No 8 James Lees, second row Simon Gingell and replacement threequarter Steve Ladd.

Lloyd Williams said afterwards: "We knew that we should win, but tried to play it like any other game. They conceded a lot of penalties and we took taps at them most of the time."

The skipper singled out scrum-half Rybaruk for praise. "He got to the breakdowns well and supplied us with good, quick ball," he said.
