North Petherton found Sulians' backs too good for them as the leaders maintained their 100% record at Bath on Saturday. The visitors were under the cosh for the first 20 minutes, but defended well and full-back Tom Williams cancelled out an early Sulians penalty with one of his own.
Then, twice in quick succession, fast hands across the backs earned the home side two tries, one of which was converted to put the leaders 15-3 up at half-time. Petherton had rallied before the break with a succession of good line-out drives that led to No.8 Matt Brown getting over the home line, only for the unsighted referee to not allow the try.
Within two minutes of the restart, the match was effectively finished as Sulians raced 27-3 ahead. On both occasions they scored tries from the restart, again showing good ball handling skills as backs and forwards combined to good effect.
Despite now playing up the slope and into the wind, Petherton were able to get a foothold in the game after that and probably had the better of the second half as they began to dominate the forward battle with a number of good driving mauls.
A period of sustained pressure in the home 22, where the Pethy pack continually drove to the try-line only for the maul to be pulled down, eventually led to a try from skipper James Lees. That was to be the high point for the visitors as the last 20 minutes of the match became a scrappy affair, with neither side looking like scoring again.
Although the Petherton pack played well, their backs struggled to make any impression, although the excellent tackling throughout by Tom Williams prevented any further tries by the home side.
