I have been asked to start an association of friends based around North Petherton rugby club. The aim of the association is to promote social friendship amongst our members and to fundraise for the benefit of the North Petherton RFC members. We will not conflict with social or fundraising events promoted by the club. We are totally separate from the club and will be answerable only to ourselves. Initially we sent out invitations to a few, this was to get the association up and running before extending the invitation to whoever of you who would like to be involved.
The association will be run by me, Trevor Parry, Phil Ham, Clive Williams and Tracy Evans. Trevor will control a bank account in our name with Phil and me as signatories. Anyone from the association can arrange a social/fundraising event and not every one has to attend, and you will not be expected to put your hand in your pocket all of the time. These events are to get people together to have a good time and raise some money. Money raised will be used for something that we (the association) believe will be beneficial to North Petherton RFC. The rugby club can offer suggestions on how they would like the money used, but it is for us to decide. We will not be paying for the general running of the club or paying for or making payments to players. There are no plans yet to have a joining fee (although it has been suggested that a joining fee could be £20.00) if you as a member feel that this is a good idea then it can be arranged. Membership of the association does not entitle you to membership of North Petherton RFC, which you have to arrange separately with the club.
If you would like more information on the association or what we hope to achieve, contact me or any of the five named above. Can you reply to this letter to say whether you are or are not interested in being part of this group?
Hope to hear from you soon.
Regards
Chris
Letter from the Committee
Dear All
We are writing to you to introduce the challenge that NPRFC is setting itself for the forthcoming season. We want to build on our successes and during the year of the Rugby World Cup strive to seek promotion.
We need your support on and off the field of play and we wish to continue our refurbishment programme to further improve our facilities and to promote our club to a wider audience.
In this season we have two new captains in Lloyd Williams (1st team) and Larry Steward (2nd team) who have rugby in their hearts both on and off the pitch. Clarence Clatworthy is trying to revive our 3rd team so any help you can give him or the other two captains will be greatly appreciated, especially players are needed to bolster all three teams. Our minis/juniors section continues to go from strength the strength; we will again see a colt’s team wearing the Pethy colours towards the end of the season.
You can support the club by encouraging your friends to become a member or by dusting off those old boots and playing again. You may want to join our 100 club at only a mere £3 per month. There are many ways you can help the club from just buying a beer or two to sponsoring an advertising board. Or you may wish to join the newly started Beggars Brook Rugby Association (see accompanying letter).
Whatever you do, you are always welcome at your club.
Hopefully see you soon
The Committee, NPRFC
Letter from the President
Dear All
During the span of a rugby club’s history, you will find numerous supporters & volunteers giving up their spare time, without these rugby clubs would not be where they are today! North Petherton with over 100 years of history has had its fair share of people working behind the scenes, without them we would not be in the strong position that we are in.
I am not asking you to give up all of your spare time, but to remember what enjoyment you have got from rugby! And more to the point what enjoyment you could still get by coming down to the club every now and then, to enjoy the rugby, a beer (or two) or just a social chat. The support that you can give will mean a lot to the future of North Petherton Rugby Club, “your club”.
The Club has excellent facilities which are available all year round, whether it’s for a wedding reception, birthday, anniversary or even a skittle match, even the pitches are available if you wanted to organise an event for your family & friends, just give us a call and see what we can do for you.
The rugby being played at the Club these days has got faster & faster, this is due to all the changes in the law’s which has made it more enjoyable for our spectators. At our club there is a thriving junior & mini section, this would not be possible if it wasn’t for all the help from the coaches, committee & parent’s, remember these are the future of North Petherton RFC.
Our players of all ages but especially our first team had a successful season last year, Let us give them the support that they deserve on and off the field. This season could see us gain promotion from Somerset 1 into the Somerset Premier division, but they cannot do this alone, remember this is a team effort on the pitch & also in the Clubhouse. Please help your Club to be more successful.
Hopefully we will see you at the club in the near future.
Phil Ham
